Question by Donq: Central air conditioner does not work.?

My central air condioner does not work. I have a heat pump style air conditioner/heater. The heater does not work either. The pump is about 10 years old. I’ve reset the circuit breakers and reset the fuse but still having problems. Any recommendations before I call an expert and when I do call an expert how much am I talking about for repair costs? I live in Virginia. Thanks!

Q&A: Where are the filters located in my furnace – Heil 7000 heating/cooling unit?

Question by HeatherK_24: Where are the filters located in my furnace – Heil 7000 heating/cooling unit?

I bought a house a few weeks ago and I want to be a responsible homeowner and replace the filters monthly. I took the cover off and cannot find where the filters are located. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

They are normally located where the cold air return duct attaches to the furnace. Hot air duct goes out the top of the furnace. This can be at the bottom on the side of the furnce or the furnace can actually be sitting on top of the cold return. Some have a small door that opens up, others you have to take the front off to get at the filter. If it’s on the inside make sure you get the filter into the channels correctly or it could get sucked into the fan.

You may want to consider something like this if you don’t like dust in your house: http://www.allergy-relief-air-purifier.com/air-conditioning-filters.html

Question by martin j: want a new combi boiler but Vaillant or Ideal?

Have a four bed house with 10 radiators. not bothered about lag for hot water or showers etc at same time. must be energy efficient and around the 35/37 KW mark. some work needs doing on the piping but have two quotes so far of 2790 and 2820 for the Vaillant 37.
The quotes we have are for the Vaillant 837 ecoTEC.

I would be inclined to stay away from Ideal. What about the new Baxi range, the duotec is available up to 40kW.

the valve has three positions. Turn the stem clockwise until it seats and the flow from or to the compressor is shut off. Turn the stem counterclockwise to seat and the vale is open for normal operation. Anywhere in between is the position used for charging vacuuming or checking pressure.

Question by James D: Can I adapt my mobile home 110v wiring to run a 220v ductless Air Conditioner?

Killer deal on a Mitsubishi Mr Slim Air Conditioner (18K BTU) in the box…but I have a mobile home with a (100 amp) 110v circuit at the drop. Is it possible to change the existing wiring to use the 220v A/C?
